Our Commitment and Shared Expectations

At PARA Foundation, our work is guided by a commitment to community, dignity, and justice. As a  registered Australian charity, we are accountable to the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits  Commission (ACNC), which upholds transparency, ethical practice, and responsible governance in the  not-for-profit sector.

But beyond legal obligations, we hold ourselves to higher standards — those grounded in compassion,  respect, and service to our community, especially people who have experienced displacement,  discrimination, or hardship.

This document outlines our commitments and the expectations we share with everyone who connects  with PARA — including beneficiaries, volunteers, donors, partners, and supporters. It’s about creating a  safe, welcoming, and responsible space for all.

Our Legal and Ethical Responsibilities as a Registered Charity

As an ACNC-registered organisation, we are required to:

1. Act Lawfully and Ethically

  • Follow all Australian laws, including charity and tax regulations.
  • Ensure all resources are managed responsibly and used for their intended purpose.

2. Operate for Charitable Purposes

  • Serve the community with integrity and compassion.
  • Deliver programs that align with our mission to support vulnerable and displaced  communities.

3. Uphold Transparency and Accountability

  • Keep accurate records and report annually to the ACNC.
  • Be open and honest in all our public and stakeholder communications.

4. Protect the Wellbeing of Our Community

  • Provide a safe, inclusive, and culturally respectful environment.
  • Take active steps to prevent harm, exploitation, or discrimination.

What We Ask of You – Our Shared Code of Engagement

As we work together to build a safe and supportive community, we ask that everyone who engages with  PARA upholds the following principles:

1. Respect and Compassion

  • Treat others with dignity, kindness, and cultural sensitivity.
  • We do not tolerate aggression, abuse, or intimidation in any form.

2. Honesty and Integrity

  • Be truthful when engaging with PARA programs or services.
  • Fraud, misrepresentation, or dishonest conduct goes against our shared values.

3. Responsible Communication

  • Help us maintain a respectful and inclusive environment — in person, in writing, and  online.
  • Refrain from spreading misinformation or making statements that could harm PARA or  our community.

4. Zero Tolerance for Fraud or Misuse

  • Any attempt to misuse PARA’s services or resources, or to act unlawfully or unethically,  will be taken seriously.
  • We may take appropriate action, including reporting to relevant authorities if required.

We understand that many people who come to PARA have experienced trauma, loss, and injustice. We’re  here to walk alongside you with empathy — and we ask that this trust be mutual.

If Expectations Aren’t Met

We’re committed to working through concerns with fairness and care. However, if these guidelines are  not followed, PARA may take the following actions to protect our community and integrity:

  • Have a respectful conversation or issue a formal warning.
  • Limit access to services or support where necessary.
  • Report serious breaches to appropriate authorities.
  • Pursue legal action in extreme cases.

We’re Here for You

We believe in dignity, accountability, and doing things the right way. If you have concerns, questions, or  feedback, we welcome the opportunity to listen and support you. We are committed to learning from  feedback to continuously improve our services and how we deliver them.
